Our ancestors were taken from their homes across the ocean to an unknown land, where they suffered greatly but persevered and grew stronger. Today the island is a pilgrimage site for the African diaspora, a place between civilizations, of understanding and forgiveness. Gorée Island is a testament to our strength and our ability to lift ourselves up, and a tribute to all those who walked the earth before us.
